Fund raising efforts for Mexi-Can Vet Project

We receive many monetary donations from the amazing clients at McKenzie Veterinary Services and pet lovers from Victoria BC. To them we extend our sincere thanks for supporting this project. Muchisimas Gracias por Todo!

Donations of medicines, flea and tick control products, surgical supplies and pet products have been made by clients and by our veterinary supply companies.  We extend our thanks to the generosity of The Victoria Compounding Pharmacy, Zoetis (formerly Pfizer Animal Health), Borderlink Veterinary Supplies, McArthy and Sons Services,  Elanco, Novartis, Bayer Animal Health, Associated Veterinary Purchasing,  IDEXX Laboratories, Vetoquinol and Royal Canin. Your generous product donations have been put to good use and are much appreciated.

To continue this project we are always looking for ways to raise awareness and receive donations.  Many of the volunteers who travel on one of our teams to Mexico help out by staffing our Mexi-Can Vet Project display booth at various events in the Greater Victoria area.We have attended The Pet Expo, Pet-A-Palooza, Citizen Canine Dog Walk, Gorge Canada Day Picnic, Festival Mexicano and raised hundreds of dollar through direct story sharing with people locally.

“Paws for Tea”

Elizabeth and Lin
“Paws for Tea” Fundraiser

Paws for Tea put on by ELU Pet Aid Society June 2014

In June, another successful Paws for Tea fundraiser for MCVP was organized by Mary Koyl and Karen Delert and held on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the restored James Bay mansion of Mary Koyl and Marc Packenham. Friends and MCVP supporters came in large numbers and helped to raise $1700 in donations. This money allows us to pay for the supplies and manpower of the Mexican Pet’s for Life veterinary team at the November 2014 clinic. Thank you to Mary, Karen and Marc for making this happen and to our many supporters who came out to enjoy tea and some home made scones loaded with butter and preserves.   A celebrity film star “ the dog “ made an appearance with his entourage of 6 biker babes…it was quite a show!

Ongoing efforts include sales of brightly coloured T-shirts showing the Mexi-Can Vet Project logo of two dancing dogs.. for just $15.   These are available at McKenzie Veterinary Services and at events and come in men’s and women’s sizes.

MCVP dog reunion at Pet Pampering September 2014

One of biggest local supporters for the MCVP is Ruby Thomsen, a dog behaviouralist and owner of Pet Pampering, Victoria’s best outdoor dog boarding facility for social dogs.  Ruby has not only come down and volunteered at several spay and neuter clinics with MCVP, but she also has become a helper in bringing adoptable dogs from the Puerto Vallarta SPCA up to Vancouver Island. Once a big dog owner, Ruby has recently embraced the joy of small rescued Mexican dogs.

Our third annual Mexi-Can Vet Project adopted dog reunion was held on the property at Ruby’s home on West Saanich Rd. in September. We had about 85 attendees with their dogs adopted through MCVP…great food, a piñata and lots of sniffing by dogs and greeting by humans was done. Once again we were able to raise about $2000 dollars. Many thanks to Gordon Rufh, our local dog photographer, for donating his time and skills to capture some fantastic photos of the dogs with their owners.
